Yes! An odd one, but hopefully it explained clearly as to why above. It's not something we obviously think about!! It's very rare - 1/5000 units transfused, it will roughly happen in an immunological way - but only 1/1100 (the less serious non-immune version) can happen. It can be worrying, distressing and if it happened noticeably, would likely require ICU admission or at least escalation very quickly. Something to think about when the patients can sit for a while in A&E etc - can happen up to 6h post-transfusion!! :-O
